Civilian Employees Take Time for Fitness. PEARL HARBOR (NNS) - - Fleet and Industrial Supply Center (FISC) Pearl Harbor full- time civil service employees are now able to use three hours per week of official work time for health and fitness. The Employee Health and Wellness Program was formally established May 1 after a trial period which began in February. Neither annual leave nor administrative leave needs to be taken to participate in the program. The wellness program, which has been well received by the workforce, supports the federal government's and the Navy's initiative to foster healthy lifestyles and promote the health and wellness of its workforce. Typically, healthy employees show increased productivity and lowered rates of absenteeism. Employees who participate in FISC Pearl Harbor's wellness program are subject to specified guidelines, including the approval of their supervisors. Employees are also encouraged to receive the go- ahead from their physicians prior to beginning a fitness program. Participation in the program is secondary to FISC Pearl Harbor's mission requirements; supervisors may direct participating employees to suspend activity when critical mission needs arise. The Employee Health and Wellness Program is just one more initiative designed to provide FISC Pearl Harbor personnel with a quality of life equal to the best commands in the Navy. FISC Pearl Harbor's mission is to provide quality and timely logistics and support services to Navy, Marine Corps, joint and allied forces throughout the Pacific Rim. FISC Pearl Harbor, one of seven supply centers under Commander, Fleet and Industrial Supply Centers (COMFISCs), provides supply chain management, procurement, contracting and transportation services, technical and customer support, defense fuel products, and worldwide movement of personal property.
